I might deserve this

My boys have never really been wall artists until now. Rhett dabbled in a little bit of crayon-on-wall expression a year or two ago, but Benjamin never did that sort of thing... until now! While I love to see my kids' artwork, especially their cute depiction of our family members, I'm not loving the medium of choice here (pen on living room wall). But perhaps I deserve it since I was a bit of a wall artist myself as a kid.

A Birthday Girl

This doesn't seem like it was that long ago.

But it was!  Look at her now!

We had a small celebration.

Rhett was eager to help Lucy open her presents.

Chocolate cream pie stood in for the birthday cake.

We didn't even make it through "Happy Birthday" before Lucy was sneaking a taste.

I think she liked it.

Happy birthday to Lucy!  This has been the quickest year of our lives, and one full of more joy and love than we could have ever imagined.  We love this girl so much.

March 12, 2012, Monday

A few years ago I was inspired by a blog post to start this 12 x 12 project. (I'm almost certain it came from here, but I searched and can't find it.) So, with a few hiccups here and there, I have been taking twelve pictures on the 12th day of the month (usually with my phone, so the quality is not great) in an attempt to document the ordinary in our lives. I'm finally getting around to adding them to the blog now, and will work my way backward.

Set up for preschool
Preschool boys Harold, Eryk, Rhett & Benjamin watching the "QU" video for preschool. "Q" was our letter of the day.
Lucy "helping"
Empty crockpot from our overnight oatmeal
View of the back yard and our new-to-us play thing (thanks, Katschkes)
A common snack food
A sewing project for a baby shower, the "bapron"
Finished bibs
My bracket
Another baby gift project, from this book
Some of my homemade bias tape
Birthday presents for Rhett and Lucy from Grandma and Grandpa Duersch

Building a Bookshelf

Due to my habit of acquiring children's books, our shelf has become inadequate to contain the collection.  So Paul kindly agreed to make another one this weekend, and the boys were happy to help.

Safety (or sunglasses) first.

The Help

In an effort to have a whine-free dinner, I told Benjamin he could help me make a dinner of his choosing.  I can't say for certain that it was whine-free, but I think he enjoyed helping me make the sauce for our spaghetti.  Of course Rhett and Lucy couldn't be left out of the action.

Benjamin's New Hobby

Benjamin has recently been really interested in playing chess.  Neither Paul nor I play the game, but he has an older cousin who is a chess whiz (among other notable talents).  At this point he really doesn't care about how the game turns out.  He just wants someone to play it with him.

Just like Dada

Benjamin watched Paul shining his shoes for church and really wanted his own shoes shined, too.  I wish I had been able to capture the pure delight on his face as Paul polished them up.
