Lucy's Lucky Day!

 Somebody had a birthday today!

And what better way to start off this "lucky" Sunday morning than green smoothies for breakfast?
Especially when it looks like a clover in the blender.

After church, home teachers, and while the birthday girl napped, the decorating crew got to work.

Lucy got chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, and broccoli (she loves broccoli) for her birthday dinner (since I forgot to look at my corned beef recipe until it was too late for the 5-hour cook time. Corned beef tomorrow!).

Presents!

Lucy concentrated hard on opening every one.
She loved her owl pillow from Grandma and Grandpa Duersch.

And her I *heart* Elmo legwarmers "made" by Mama.

And she was delighted with her new Radio Flyer tricycle (not as much with the new helmet).

We don't really watch Sesame Street, but Lucy knows who Elmo is and gets excited whenever she sees him. An Elmo birthday cake seemed in order.

And those tricky Leprechauns! They turned the birthday cake green when we weren't looking!

Happy birthday to our sweet Lucy girl! You're still delightful as ever, and we so look forward to the many years ahead of the beautiful light you bring to our family! We love you!

Dream Come True

Can you guess why these kids are so happy?

'Cause they all get to ride in Dada's new truck!

Paul has been dreaming of this day for years. The time was right, and we found a good deal (with only a little hassle involved). I don't have a picture that captures Paul's boyish excitement about (finally) owing a truck, but maybe you can imagine. He's pretty happy.

It needed a good wash (as did our other vehicles)...

and a finishing touch! (Do you see it?)

Now we're getting ready to part with our faithful Accord, so let us know if you know any potential buyers!

Lucy's first French braids

I spent a lot of my girlhood with braided hair, and I have lots of memories of my mom braiding my hair for me. Now Lucy's hair is getting pretty long (and she was distracted enough this time) so I was able to do this to her hair. She doesn't much like me messing with her hair, so who knows when we'll do it again. But it made me smile!

I love both these faces!

Tuesday (and the blog is caught up!)

8:02 am: Chicken broth, fresh from the crock pot

8:03 am: Our living room constantly has books all over the floor because of Lucy.
The cabinet is a new treasure in our home, gifted to us by my grandpa. It was made in 1932 for my grandma, who would have been about the same age Lucy is now. It was used as a play kitchen at my grandparents' house, and now we're using it for books.

8:03 am: Constantly by my side for the past week and a half
(A doctor's visit and antibiotic for sinusitis and pink eye two days later, and I'm starting to finally feel better. Blah!)

9:14 am: Getting ready for Valentine's day

9:15 am: Rhett wants a picture of his Legos

11:10 am: I Spy and Waldo are current favorites

11:21 am: Roses from my lovey

12:34 pm: Movie time (Mama needs a break)

1:36 pm: Homemade fortune cookies. (Not sure they're worth the effort when you can do this.)

4:46 pm: Giving our new electric pencil sharpener a workout

6:27 pm: White chicken chili for dinner

7:33 pm: Some iPad love
